Throwback Thursday

That awkward moment when you open your Facebook one Thursday and saw a lot of ThrowbackThursday hashtags, and you don’t have any idea about it.

I have to dig over the internet to find out what this is all about, and where this meme originated.  I would say this is the first time that Mr. Google didn’t answer me directly.  Now it leads me to believe that no one knows adequately about the origin
of it, or at least no one yet were able to find out.  I can’t even search the 1^st #TBT post.   I’ve heard of something like Flashback Friday…From Rock to Retro and Dance to Disco, but not this hashtag throwback.

#ThrowbackThursday is an Instagram “feature” that was first introduced in early 2011, I am not an Instagram advocate, thus, my ignorance about this hashtag when I first saw it.  Throwback Thursday is simple posting a picture from the past, hence the word “THROWBACK”.  A social media activity every Thursday.  Of course, it’s not named Throwback Saturday, or Throwback Everyday. :) :)  and don’t forget, it’s a throwback, you wouldn’t want to post a picture of you from last week.

TBT is very popular on Instagram, users hash tagging their photos with the varieties of #ThrowbackThursday, #Throwback or just simply #TBT.  As I checked my Instagram there are  41,987,800 pictures tagged with #TBT, and another 24,202,737 tagged with #THROWBACKTHURSDAY.  That millions of pictures tagged on Instagram makes it possibly the most popular hashtag game ever.  Now, it is even viral on Facebook.

Simple guide for #ThrowbackThursday:

• Pictures should be at least 8 or 10 years old, the older the better.   Throw back the vintage.
• Don’t post too many pictures every week, 1 or 2 pictures in a week is enough.  You will be doing it every Thursday anyway.  You will run out of pictures one Thursday.
• It would be more interesting if you post awkward, uncomfortable, funny pictures and tag your friends who actually can relate to that picture of yours, and at least give the people who don’t know you well the glimpse of the peculiar little you. ;)

Now go get your hard bound album that is now accumulating dust, make it useful, take snapshots of your old pictures, have it ready for Thursday!
